Calwell Community Bank® Branch

The Calwell community is the first in the ACT to open a locally owned and operated Community Bank® Branch. Together‚ the Calwell and Wanniassa communities raised $900‚000 in share capital to open their bank branches. Calwell is the first branch to opened‚ followed closely by Wanniassa.

Started pledge raising campaign
November 2001 15‚500 feasibility surveys mailed out to residents and traders
December 2001 Feasibility results presented to the committee
April 2002 Decision to proceed with two Community Bank® branches‚ one in Calwell and one in Wanniassa
May 2002 Public Share Offer opens. Bendigo Bank and the community open a banking agency at Tony Godfrey’s Pharmacy
July 2002 Public share offer closes. Communities raise $900‚000 from 388 local residents‚ traders‚ business people and farmers.
6 December 2002 Calwell Community Bank® launches to the public
9 December 2002 Calwell Community Bank® opens for business

Wanniassa Community Bank® Branch

The Wanniassa community‚ along with nearby Calwell‚ was the first community in the ACT to open a locally owned and operated Community Bank® Branch. Together‚ the Calwell and Wanniassa communities raised $900‚000 in share capital to open their bank branches. Calwell was the first branch to open‚ followed closely by Wanniassa.
